2020 to put it politely was a bit of a mess. However one shining light to come out of it was couples determination to reimagine what a wedding could be. Micro-weddings, or mini-weddings were an option for a number of couples that I photographed this year. Here are a few favourite shots from three I photographed in 2020. If you’re planning a micro-wedding, or a small elopement get in touch and I can put together a tailored package for you.
KYLAH + ELLIOT
K+ E had planned on a large wedding held at a gorgeous hotel, but with their plans halted at the last minute they opted for a ceremony only wedding at the Bay Pointe Golf Club, in West Bloomfield. There may have only been a handful of family members and close friends there in person but over a hundred guests from all over the world were watching online. The sun shone down and the Lower Straits Lake was the perfect backdrop. The day may have been short and sweet but all the nerves and excitement were still there.
MELISSA + DEVON
M+D took all the components of their originally planned big wedding and shrunk them down into what turned out to be a wonderfully relaxed, beautiful and fun filled micro – wedding. They rented a big ol’ Airbnb in South Haven, filled it with a few of their closest family and friends, had a caterer cook up some delicious food and stocked up on their favorite drinks. They did a first look and blocked out a good amount of time to explore a few spots in the downtown area and along the beach. When it came to the actual ceremony they just wondered down to the nearby bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, said their “I-dos” and then had the most chilled evening sat around the same table as all their loved ones.
MALIKA + ARJUN
M+A decided they couldn’t wait for the Covid restrictions to be lifted so like Melissa + Devon they rented a lovely Airbnb on the outskirts of Grand Rapids, gathered a handful of close friends and said their beautiful vows to one another as their friends and family watched on from thousands of miles away. We shot some pictures on the grounds of the old farmhouse, ate tapas and toasted the happy couple. Such a simple day but a beautiful, happy and poignant day nonetheless.
